The Weston Family Foundation is the latest generous donor to support the first Atlantic Canadian Perishable Food Rescue Centre to be built in the fall.

Fredericton, NB: Greener Village, the largest food and social services charity in New Brunswick and a community-driven organization dedicated to addressing hunger and promoting food security in the greater Fredericton area, has been working hard behind the scenes to meet its goal of raising $6.3 million to build a Perishable Food Rescue Centre in Fredericton, the first of its kind in Atlantic Canada. Today, they are thrilled to announce a generous contribution from the Weston Family Foundation to the THRIVE Campaign.

“We are beyond grateful for the support of the Weston Family Foundation and their donation to the THRIVE Campaign,” shared Greener Village CEO Alex Boyd. “Generous donations like this one are vital in turning our dream of solving food insecurity in our province into a reality as we establish the first Perishable Food Rescue Centre in Atlantic Canada. This significant undertaking would not be possible without the support of organizations like the Weston Family Foundation.”

The Weston Family Foundation’s donation of $750,000 to the THRIVE Campaign will be instrumental in helping Greener Village build a Perishable Food Rescue Centre on-site at Greener Village in Fredericton later this year. The centre will receive, recover, transform, and distribute fresh foods destined for waste by turning these products into value-added, ready-to-eat and freezer-stable items that will be redistributed to over 70 food-focused organizations throughout the province.

“The Weston Family Foundation is pleased to support Greener Village’s THRIVE Campaign,” shared Garfield Mitchell, Chair. “The establishment of Atlantic Canada’s first perishable food rescue centre is in direct alignment with our mission to improve the health and well-being of Canadians. We commend the team at Greener Village for their unwavering support for communities across New Brunswick and applaud their forward-thinking strategy to re-purpose surplus food, minimize waste, and provide essential nutrition for individuals experiencing food insecurity.”
